A few problems:
WoW has separate American and European server lists, we can't all get on one.
Pandas.

Well, I'm going to stay true to AQW for the moment... I know it's changed but have you forgotten that this is what united us all in the first place? And to be honest, I think that the main contributer to AQW's success was when I played with my friends...

Herosmash is actually arguably better than AQW, at least in terms of gameplay.

Spoiler:
>gameplay

I mean, I only played it for a bit but couldn't you buy different skills instead of being locked to a class?

Too bad they completely screwed up with the art style.

Also I'm planning on getting back into WoW as well when pandas roll out, along with some friends.

Spoiler:
We could also play runescape

Herosmash was a poorly planned idea.
Superhero games ain't that popular to begin with. And the weekly currency releases, everything-being-an-item, and general lack of distinction between skills made it... worse.
And the hour long grind releases.

We could also play runescape

We could also eat bowls of razor sharp metal flakes coated in cow urine, it would probably be more entertaining. (and some of you probably drink red bull, so you got the latter covered already)

Why don't we all just be optimistic?

Also, why isn't this topic in the mod conference room?

When I said runescape, I was actually referring to RS2006, a remake of what most people consider the best version of RS. I dunno, just a thought.

In all seriousness is this like H & H a bit? It looks kind of cool.

I brought that up a while ago... nobody else seemed keen on it, and they're a bit sick of AE. Some of us still play, sometimes.

Do you have to put a lot of time into it to not get owned by everyone?

It's famous for being one of the most grind-centered, click-to-do-something-fifty-million-times game ever.

Breakdown: You wanna fight? You gotta spend months (of play time) training your skills, then getting money for items so you don't die in a few hits.
You wanna skill? (Blacksmithing, mining, etc) You gotta spend about thrice as much getting your skills to a high level, at which point you realize there's no reward unless you invest the money you gain into something.
Cue fighting.
Or construction.

Unless you are a non-member, at which its pretty much grind with no actual reward.

Money still plays a huge role in whatever you do, even magic has a resource system (runes) that cost a ton.
By money so far, I mean gold of course.

Re: Mod Conference Room is Feeling Weak

Post by Tim Hortans on Fri Dec 09, 2011 8:16 am

That is not how I experienced Runescape at all. I played it casually from time to time, just playing around, and never had an issue.

Breakdown of your breakdown (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
You wanna fight? Don't pick a fight with someone 20 levels higher than you. There's always people who play the game similar to you, and you can almost always find a decent level opponent. And fighting is a mutual thing (except for wilderness and all that) so you're not going to "die in a few hits" unless you're an idiot who runs out in the wilderness when he's not ready.

You wanna skill? That doesn't make any sense. Sure, it is grindy if you want to max out your skills, but you don't HAVE to. There are some grinding elements, but if games didn't have them they would be no fun. And that last point is pretty obvious, if you don't do anything with the ore you mined, what was the point in mining it?

Also everyone is a member in RS2006.

Re: Mod Conference Room is Feeling Weak

I'm talking about the actual game. Not some POS ripoff.

I've played the actual game as a member, it gets pretty grindy pretty fast.
I mean, yeah, endgame lets you fight some pretty cool monsters, they even managed to implement raids (in a game without a party system). And free trade + the wilderness are back.
Still... I miss the non-wilderness wilderness... Anyways, point is that if you want to do anything awesome, you will have to play for a LONG time.

Or like Xusha, have made an account when the game came out and have collected 50 party hats, those things are worth about a billion gold each.
Yes, the game breaker item that lets you have money for ANYTHING is a bunch of paper party hats.

But in all seriousness, it's just really hard for all of us as a group to recommit to a different game when we actually bonded through another game in the first place. Someone always tends to shoot down any new game ideas that show up. =/
